Nimman is better than most long-termers give it credit for
Nimman (Nimmana Haeminda Road and its lanes) gets dismissed by long-term Chiang Mai residents as too expensive, too tourist-facing, too much. That is a fair criticism of certain parts of it. But Lane 11 specifically is different. It sits away from the main strip foot traffic and the afternoon coffee queue culture.
The most interesting thing on Lane 11 in 2026 is CNX Cigars, a purpose-built cigar lounge on the second floor of 45 Nimmana Haeminda Road. It is not a side attraction or an afterthought. The room is the experience.
What it is and why it matters
CNX Cigars is not a hotel lobby humidor or a bar that keeps a box of cigars behind the counter. It is a dedicated lounge with proper climate control, a curated humidor, and stock sourced exclusively through Pacific Cigar Company, the official Habanos APS distributor for Southeast Asia.
That last point matters more than it sounds. Counterfeit Cuban cigars are common in Thailand. Bands get copied, boxes get refilled with lower-grade product. The authentication chain at CNX Cigars is verifiable. What you light is what it says on the band.
The collection is the largest curated Cuban inventory in Northern Thailand. Beyond Cubans, the team stock a considered range of premium New World cigars for guests who want to compare. Ask what is available when you arrive. The team know their stock and will match you to something based on your preference and experience level.
Key details: 2nd Floor, 45 Nimmana Haeminda Road Lane 11, Chiang Mai 50200. Open noon to midnight (12:00 to 00:00), seven days. Walk-ins always welcome. No reservation required for individual visitors.
The lounge itself
The room is climate-controlled. In tropical Thailand at 35 degrees outside, a properly air-handled lounge is not a given. CNX Cigars handles it correctly for both guest comfort and cigar storage. Temperature and humidity stay consistent.
The seating is unhurried. Deep chairs, corner nooks, space to settle in for an hour or two without feeling like you are occupying a table someone else needs. The ventilation means you are not carrying the smell of someone else's smoke by the time you finish your own cigar.
Walk in any day from noon. Come up the stairs, ask what is in the humidor, order what appeals. That is the whole process. No membership card, no reservation form, no dress code standing between you and a quiet evening.
The team and the tasting experience
The team at CNX Cigars are not just selling product. They run guided palate-mapping sessions and spirits pairings on request, both for walk-in guests who want to learn and for pre-booked private groups.
If you are new to cigars, this is where you avoid the common beginner mistakes: choosing something too full-bodied for your palate, or pairing it badly with the wrong drink. Ask when you arrive and the team will walk you through the options.
If you already know what you smoke, the collection depth makes it worth coming in. There are vitolas and brands here that are not available in any other Chiang Mai venue.
The humidor
The humidor wall is the centrepiece of the room. Cuban production across multiple vitolas, displayed and maintained at consistent humidity. The collection turns over as new stock arrives. Ask what is new when you come in.
For guests who want to understand provenance, the team can explain the authentication chain on any box in the room. This is not common practice at most Southeast Asian cigar venues. At CNX Cigars it is standard.
Private events and corporate hosting
CNX Cigars has a private VIP room seating four to six guests, bookable via LINE or WhatsApp before arrival. The main lounge floor handles groups up to 30 for corporate buyouts, with pre-curated cigar and spirits menus prepared in advance.
For Chiang Mai's long-term expat and business community, this fills a genuine gap. Standard restaurant private dining is common. A cigar lounge buyout with a tasting element is not. For client entertainment, milestone occasions, or a closed business dinner with something memorable attached to it, contact CNX Cigars directly through the website.

Getting there from anywhere in Chiang Mai
From the Old City (Mueang, the historic walled centre): 10 to 15 minutes by Grab or Bolt, around 50 to 80 THB. A songthaew (red shared truck taxi) is 40 to 60 THB if you flag one heading toward Nimman.
From Santitham: 5 to 10 minutes by Grab. From Hang Dong or further south: 20 to 25 minutes, worth the trip.
Lane 11 is off the main Nimmana Haeminda Road. The lounge is on the second floor of number 45. Parking is available on the lane if you are driving.
